RCHAT201 by John Morris
Modified by Tom Hansen, Sysop
Church Chatters (tm) BBS
USE: Internode CHAT
NEED: RBBS-BAS.ZIP source code for 17.4
RFIX0704.ZIP Latest Update to RBBS-PC v17.4
RBBS-ASM.ZIP object modules for linking RBBS-PC.
BLED22.ZIP Merge utility by Ken Goosens
Why? Well, because I didn't know enough to get RCHAT400 working
along with Tom Collins' Ansied editor, the most popular MOD for
my users. Also because John Taylor of Indiana On-Line (tm) in
Bloomington Indiana nudged me for the MODS for RBBS 17.3 to add the
feature to his board. And lastly I have noticed alot of questions
in the RBBS RelayNet conference regarding CHAT MODS and the desire
to have mods that worked easily for them. I place myself in the
category of the ignorant in that I didn't know enough to get
RCHAT400 working to my satisfaction but know enough to be dangerous
and venture out to get something to work that I like. Enough about me!
How do you get this done?
1. Unzip the contents of this file into your work directory.
2. Update the RBBS source code using RFIX0704.
(Leave RBBS-VAR.BAS in your RBBS-BAS.ZIP file as it is
provided in this zipfile.)
3. Execute these merges against your updated source code. The
file MERGE.BAT which comes with RFIX0704.ZIP works well.
simply type "MERGE CHTR" at the DOS prompt in your work directory.
4. Compile RBBS as usual.
8. Place CHATHELP in the subdir you execute RBBS-PC.EXE from and
enjoy!
RCHAT201 docs indicate that it's code is not to be distributed
in modified form. I checked with John Morris, its author and
this was his response:
> Tom,
> fine by me. go ahead and do whatever you feel is appropriate.
> John
John has updated his code with each release of RBBS. I recommend
you use his modifications first.
I thank DGS Sysops for encouraging me to keep these modifications
up to date with RBBS code and for making suggestions on how to
make it better suit the average user and his needs. Not only have
they offered invaluable advice but also tested the MODS on several
systems. I specificly thank Walter Ames and Gregg Snyder for their
input. John's TrueCHAT has been removed because of dropping
characters. I don't know if this is a problem in his current chat
modifications. Thanks to John Morris for getting us started in this
and for proving that if it can be thought of it can be done! The next
step for me is to finish a the door I starded working on ( and put on
the shelf ) to exit chat to a full screen char for char chat door.
